Liverpool got off a winning start in their tour of the USA, picking up a 1-0 win over Real Betis in Arne Slot’s first official pre-season game in charge.

Dominik Szobozslai may have got the only goal of the game, but Reds fans will take an array of positives out of their display in Pittsburgh on Friday.

Supporters back home on Merseyside and around the world had to wake up in the early hours of Saturday morning to catch the action. But with Mohamed Salah leading the line, it was well worth it.

The Egyptian’s link-up play with Szoboszlai was one of the shining lights of the encounter, with Conor Bradley and Fabio Carvalho looking sharp as well while Trey Nyoni emerged as one of the teenage stars to watch.

Many of the first team were still absent after Euro 2024 and Copa America duties, but Slot’s style of play was clear as day as the countdown to the Premier League campaign continues.

The Dutchman’s philosophy is not radically different from Jürgen Klopp’s on-pitch mentality, but from early signs it appeared to allow for slower, more controlled build-up play, making the midfielders’ roles even more crucial.

Liverpool are next in action against Arsenal on Wednesday night before a highly anticipated clash against Manchester United in South Carolina on Saturday.
