About 700 learners at Intakemazolo Combined School in Hammarsdale, west of Durban, have not had any classes since the third term began.
This is because of a disagreement between the principal and the school governing body (SGB).
The problem started earlier this month when schools reopened.
The SGB wants the principal, Nonhlanhla Hlophe, to leave the school and has stopped her from coming to work. It is not clear why the SGB does not want her.
In support of Hlophe, all the teachers have walked out, leaving the learners without lessons. No classes have taken place since the walkout.
“Dear parents, we wish to inform you that your kids have been left stranded by their teachers,” the SGB said in a letter to parents.
“The SGB, which is the leadership of parents, is meeting with the education department to try and find solutions to this. We apologise for this challenge.”
SGB chairperson Ms N. Kweyama signed the letter.
Attempts to reach her for comment were unsuccessful.
Hlophe directed all questions to the KwaZulu-Natal education department.
The department’s spokesperson, Muzi Mahlambi, said the department was aware of the situation and that the “district is attending to the matter”.
