Oscar Piastri was victorious at the Hungarian Grand Prix as McLaren sealed a one-two win for the first time since 2021.

23-year-old Piastri got his first win in just his second Formula One season after Lando Norris reluctantly gave way to his teammate at the death.

The Australian was certainly good value for the victory, though, taking the lead from Norris at turn one in the opening lap and looking sharp for the most part.

Lewis Hamilton picked up the final podium place with Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc coming in fourth.

Max Verstappen had a difficult afternoon, finishing fifth and facing an investigation for causing a collision with Hamilton in an attempt to overtake the Mercedes star.

The tension between the McLaren stars until the very end was what made for the most entertaining viewing though, as the team radio urged Norris to give his teammate way in the final moments.

Ultimately, Piastri would secure first place, becoming the first F1 grand prix winner born in the 21st century.

“This is really the day I dreamed of as a kid, standing on the top step of an F1 podium. Obviously a bit complicated at the end but I put myself in the right position at the start, and thank you to the team for an amazing effort, and amazing car,” he said post-race.

“It’s a hell of a lot of fun racing for McLaren so I can’t thank them enough for giving me the opportunity to be in F1, and to be able to win together 18 months in is an incredible feeling.”
