Durban – The National Sea Rescue Institute rescued an injured Filipino sailor from a ship heading to Durban harbour. A team went out to sea, secured the sailor on a stretcher and brought him to a hospital. The sailor is in serious but stable condition.

KwaDukuza – The ANC in the General Gizenga Mpanza region (Ilembe) criticised former Cope leader Siyanda Mhlongo for writing an open letter against the national ANC leadership. Mhlongo’s letter mentioned issues affecting the ANC in KwaDukuza and eThekwini. The ANC region dismissed Mhlongo, saying he gained fame by misusing party resources and pretending to support former president Thabo Mbeki.

Umzumbe Sbonelo Maphumulo, the former ANC speaker of Umzumbe who joined the Umkhonto Wesizwe (MK) party, bought a transformer for his ward, Ward 11, which voted for him and rejected the ANC last month. The ward now has a new transformer, ending two months without power.
