- Saturday’s CAF Confederation Cup match between AS Simba and Kaizer Chiefs will not be shown live on TV.
- The broadcast blackout is due to the Democratic Republic of Congo hosts’ inability to secure necessary broadcast rights and a live feed.
- Chiefs’ supporters will have to rely solely on the club’s official Facebook, X (Twitter), and Instagram platforms for match updates.
Supporters of Kaizer Chiefs will be unable to watch their team’s crucial CAF Confederation Cup match live on television this Saturday, as the club confirmed that the hosts, AS Simba, were unable to secure the necessary broadcast rights.
The fixture, the first leg of the second preliminary round, is scheduled to take place in Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of Congo. However, a broadcast update issued by Kaizer Chiefs confirmed the unfortunate news for their South African fanbase.
“Saturday’s CAF Confederation Cup clash between AS Simba and Kaizer Chiefs in Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of Congo, will unfortunately not be broadcast live on TV,” read the statement.
“The hosts were unable to secure broadcast rights with local broadcasters, which affects the availability of the feed.”
As the visiting side, the Soweto giants are dependent on the host club’s broadcaster to provide a feed for transmission to their partners in South Africa, a system that was utilised successfully during the previous round in Angola.
The club expressed its sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused, stating the matter is “beyond our control.”
Despite the broadcast blackout, the team pledged to keep supporters informed of the match’s progress.
“We will, however, endeavour to keep our supporters updated throughout the match via our official digital platforms – Facebook, X (Twitter) and Instagram,” the statement concluded.
Chiefs will be looking to secure a positive result away from home before the return leg, which is scheduled for Sunday, 26 October.
