Baxter Explains Match-Winning Subs – iDiski Times

Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter has explained the thought process behind his match-winning substitutions in his side’s 3-1 win at Chippa United.
Amakhosi secured an important three points in the race for second spot, beating the Chilli Boys at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The win saw Chiefs move to 38 points on the log, two behind second-placed Royal AM, who have two games in hand.
Baxter brought on Keagan Dolly and Cole Alexander in the 70th minute who both found themselves on the scoresheet to secure an important win after Chippa had scored the equaliser just after half-time.
“We didn’t want to play Keagan [from the start] obviously after his long trip, but we knew he had 20 minutes in his legs,” Baxter said on SuperSport tv.
“We wanted him, Bernard [Parker] wasn’t doing badly but we’ve got another game on Tuesday and just the fresh legs and the different skillset that Keagan has was good.
“Cole [Alexander], again we needed fresh legs in the midfield, Phatu [Nange] was going down a little bit, so Cole got in and he’s quick to the ball. He just changed the game for us a little bit.
“And then moving Rama to left-back, we weren’t interested in Reeve moving forward after the 2-1, we wanted to kill the game off. And Daniel [Cardoso] in the centre also brought a little bit of experience in the game.”
