Travis Scott concert: JMPD issues travel advisory

The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) issued a traffic advisory ahead of Travis Scott’s highly anticipated Circus Maximus World Tour stop at FNB Stadium on Saturday, 11 October.

The American rapper’s return to South Africa is expected to draw thousands of fans. This has prompted stringent road closures and adjustments to public transport across the city, according to IOL.

TRAVIS SCOTT SET TO LIGHT UP FNB STADIUM

Travis Scott’s concert at FNB Stadium marks one of South Africa’s biggest international music events of the year.

Scheduled to begin at 8:30 PM and end at roughly 11:00 PM, the show is part of his global Circus Maximus Tour.

Gates will open from 4:00 PM, but JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla has urged concertgoers, especially VIP and Hospitality ticket holders, to arrive early. This is to avoid bottlenecks and ensure smooth access to the venue.

ROAD CLOSURES AROUND THE FNB PRECINCT FOR TRAVIS SCOTT CONCERT

From 11:00 AM on Saturday, JMPD will enforce full road closures around the stadium. The affected routes include Soweto Highway, Golden Highway, Nasrec Road, and Booysens Reserve Road.

Only authorised vehicles will be granted entry during the event. These closures form part of the city’s broader traffic control measures aimed at ensuring the safety of both fans and residents.

PARK AND RIDE OPTIONS ENCOURAGED

To minimise congestion, the JMPD has strongly encouraged the use of Park and Ride services. Secure, undercover parking with return shuttles will operate from key shopping destinations.

These include Sandton City, Montecasino, Cresta Shopping Centre, Menlyn Park, and Mall of Africa. This arrangement offers fans hassle-free travel directly to the FNB Stadium precinct.

GAUTRAIN AND E-HAILING SUPPORT

In preparation for the concert influx, Gautrain services will run at increased frequency between Park Station and the FNB Stadium.

This will provide additional convenience for long-distance travellers.

For those relying on ride-hailing services, JMPD has allocated designated Drop & Go zones to ensure smooth pick-up and drop-off operations.

TRAVIS SCOTT’S IMPACT ON SOUTH AFRICA’S MUSIC SCENE

Beyond the logistical challenges, Travis Scott’s performance highlights Johannesburg’s growing status as a premier destination for global music tours.

His collaboration with local artists, such as Tyler ICU, underscores South Africa’s influence on global genres, including Amapiano.

As fans gear up for an explosive night of music, the concert promises to spotlight both South African creativity and international entertainment appeal.
