Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo now joins a group of elite athletes whose income has put them in a league of their own.
It appears that records are bound to follow Cristiano wherever he goes. When he is not dominating his space in the Saudi Pro League or lifting silverware with his national team, the bank is the next place he smiles the brightest.
This comes after a recent report released by the Bloomberg Billionaires Index confirmed that the 40-year-old Al Nassr star has officially joined the billionaires’ club. According to sports publication Sky Sports, this puts him in a group of select few elite athletes who have broken through this threshold, with other notables including basketball greats Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, and LeBron James, as well as golfer Tiger Woods and tennis player Roger Federer.
The valuation done by the Bloomberg Index considers multiple career earnings, including his investments and endorsements, and says that his net worth is $1.4bn (R24bn).
His contract with Al Nassr was set to come to an end in 2025. However, the former Real Madrid, Manchester United, and Juventus star has since renewed his contract with the club, which will see him call Saudi Arabia his home for at least two more years.
Despite his age, he shows no signs of slowing down.
In a previous interview with CNN, he said:
“I’m still producing good things, I’m helping my club and the national team. Why not continue? I am sure that when I finish, I will leave full because I gave everything of myself.
“I know I don’t have many years left to play, but the few I have left, I have to enjoy them to the fullest.”
