South African activists detained by Israeli authorities following their participation in the recent Global Flotilla initiative are scheduled to be repatriated on Tuesday morning via Jordan, the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) has confirmed.

The individuals were held after participating in the flotilla, which typically attempts to breach naval blockades.

DIRCO received formal notification from the Israeli authorities regarding the release of the South African citizens from detention.

Justice Minister Ronald Lamola extended his gratitude to the various domestic and international parties whose cooperation ensured the activists’ return.

The South African government reaffirmed its commitment to the safety and well-being of its citizens abroad, following the diplomatic efforts to secure the release and repatriation of the group.
