Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex made her much-anticipated debut at Paris Fashion Week. She turned heads with a sophisticated all-white ensemble at the Balenciaga show on Saturday, 4 October.

She wore a stylish, oversized cape over a classic white button-down shirt and matching trousers. Meghan created a look that radiated effortless elegance.

She then paired with sleek black pointed-toe heels and a slicked-back bun, according to the BBC.

Meghan has often championed emerging and inclusive designers, including sustainable brands with strong ties to global causes.

MEGHAN MARKLE SUPPORTS BALENCIAGA

Her presence at the Balenciaga show was more than just a fashionable outing. Meghan’s attendance signalled strong support for her friend Pierpaolo Piccioli.

Piccoli is the newly appointed Creative Director at Balenciaga, according to Page Six.

According to her spokesperson, Meghan and Piccioli have collaborated on significant moments, reflecting years of “artistry and friendship.”

SUPPORTING SMALLER BRANDS

The Duchess’s fashion choices often champion smaller brands and advocate for ethical fashion, concepts widely discussed in South African design circles.

Her statement to the New York Times last year reinforced this approach.

“When there is a global spotlight, I support designers I have great friendships with, and smaller, up-and-coming brands that deserve more attention,” she said, according to People.

MEGHAN MARKLE AND SUSTAINABLE FASHION

This mirrors the ethos of many SA designers striving for global recognition and celebrates the nation’s growing contribution to sustainable and innovative fashion.

Meghan’s high-low style, mixing luxe with accessible pieces, also resonates with South African shoppers who value both quality and affordability.

STYLE AND PURPOSE

As e-commerce expands in South Africa, Meghan’s recent launch of her digital shop, featuring curated jewellery and accessories, offers inspiration for local entrepreneurs seeking to blend style and purpose.

Her Paris appearance serves as a global spotlight on creative collaboration, sustainability, and the power of conscious fashion. These are principles shared by South Africa’s vibrant and evolving fashion scene.
