What to wear for outdoor adventures this winter

Somewhere, somehow, someone said that when winter hits, we should stay indoors.

However, this does not have to be the case; winter doesn’t have to mean staying in bed the whole day. Outdoor activities can still be enjoyable, cosy, and incredibly Instagram-worthy if you dress appropriately.

What can help is smart layering, selecting weather-appropriate clothing, as well as dressing for functionality, warmth, and unforeseen temperature changes…especially if you live in parts of the country where the weather can be unpredictable.

Start with a base layer that wicks away moisture; look for long-sleeved shirts or thermal leggings that will keep perspiration off your skin while keeping you warm.

To maintain your body heat and avoid feeling heavy, wear a fleece or wool mid-layer.

A windproof and waterproof outer layer is essential, so perhaps try to look for jackets with hoods and sealed seams to keep out chilly winds.

Depending on the activity and degree of cold, choose waterproof leggings and pair them with hiking pants or insulated joggers.

My non-negotiables include gloves, beanies, and neck warmers; keep your extremities warm and covered at all times because heat escapes from them very quickly. Trust me.

Thick socks and waterproof boots with good traction are crucial because they keep your feet dry and stop you from slipping on wet ground.

Another important point to note is overheating. Even in extremely cold weather, overheating is common, so if you’re hiking or moving around a lot, wear layers that you do not have to take off to avoid getting ill.

You can also choose earthy, dark colours for functionality, or use accessories to add splashes of colour to keep your winter adventure outfit lively.
