Ghana Football Association president Kurt Okraku has further sparked the rivalry between the Black Stars and Nigeria, calling the Super Eagles “cry babies who pretend to be big boys”.
The two African giants will meet on Friday in one of the five FIFA World Cup playoffs in the much expected ‘Jolly Derby’.
Nigeria could qualify for their sixth World Cup, while Ghana could book their fourth ticket for football’s biggest tournament.
Ahead of the game, both sides are seemingly keen on riling each other up, with Okraku now pouring oil on the fierce rivalry.
“It’s that time of the year where every Ghanaian will have to stand up and be counted. It’s that time of the year where our country’s pride is at stake,” Okraku told Joy Sports.
“It’s that time of the year where Ghana must be at the Mundial, but before we do that, we have a common foe, the Super Eagles of Nigeria. They come across as our little babies, but they pretend to be the big boys.”
The first leg will take place in Ghana today, while the second leg will be played in Nigeria on 29 March.
Okraku’s word come after Nigeria’s Sports Minister had previously stated that the Super Eagles “will beat the sh*t” out of Ghana.
“We’re not going to play a draw in Ghana, honestly. We’ll beat the shit out of them,” he said in a video that has gone viral on social media.
“These guys should just go out, there’s insurance to their next match. There’s insurance there and there’s insurance here.”
Ghana are unbeaten in their last five games against their bitter rivals.
