Kaizer Chiefs head coach Molefi Ntseki has insisted Amakhosi are used to the pressure that comes with representing the black and gold jersey, that Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates lifting trophies doesn’t add additional pressure onto their shoulders.
While Chiefs are still chasing their first silverware in eight years, Pirates have won the last three domestic cups on offer – much to the annoyance of the Glamour Boys’ fans.
But Ntseki was adamant that Chiefs are running their own race and Pirates’ recent success doesn’t add additional pressure onto the technical team and players.
“Can we welcome the new players, can we welcome the new season by having this understanding that we are running our own race,” he told journalists.
“As much as there is so much pressure because there is expectations from everybody, especially when you look when the background and history of Kaizer Chiefs.
“I think the confidence, the belief in our players to say last time we lost in the semi-final in the Nedbank, last year we lost in the semi-fin al in the MTN8. This year again we lost in the semi-final in the MTN8, we are looking to play beyond the semi-finals, we are looking to play and win in finals.
“I think it’s a very internal pressure that we’re going through. At the same time expectations from external forces is very high.
“In this case we are expected to win every game, so we are up for it.”
Chiefs return to action next week Saturday when they will face AmaZulu in the Carling Knockout Cup at FNB Stadium.
