Khumalo Warns Chiefs Over Title Race

Kaizer Chiefs DStv Disk Challenge head coach Vela Khumalo has warned his players over complacency after leading the league’s title race.

The young Amakhosi started the season like a house on fire after winning four of their first five matches and scoring 16 goals.

Chiefs are sitting pretty on top with 13 points, two points ahead of Sekhukhune United and Mamelodi Sundowns, which they will face in their upcoming encounter.

Khumalo warned his players to stay ground as they haven’t won anything yet and it’s still far too early to talk about the league title with 25 matches still to be played.

“We should not forget that we have not won anything, it is still too early to be even talking about the title race,” Khumalo told Asidlali website.

“The players shouldn’t even think about celebrating at this stage. There’s long way to go and only the right mentality will take us all the way.”

Khumalo, though, did say that having the team together for the past seasons has been a contributing factor to their early form, as they target their first-ever DDC title.

“Having the same group of players together for two seasons, right mentality and wanting it more,” he added.

“We can only appreciate the good start but cannot get carried away, there’s still more than 20 games to go.”

The Ephefeni Glamour Boys are one of the four teams that are yet to taste a defeat this season.
