Eight Awaiting Trial Prisoners Escape In NW

North West Police have launched a manhunt for six awaiting trial prisoners who escaped from the Mogwase Magistrates’ Court holding cells on Tuesday.

The escapees, who were arrested for murder, robbery, possession of a firearm, attempted murder, and possession of suspected stolen property, managed to overpower a court orderly while being escorted back to the holding cells from the courtroom.

Police spokesperson Amanda Funani provided details on the escapees. They are Tebogo Mosito (29), Letlatsa Mpota (31), Katlego Mafatlhe (35), Keitumetse Lekolomi (25), Thabang Matlho (25), and Katlego Mkitle (26). Two of the escapees, Lebogang Mokotleng (27) and Tshepang Raselemane (25) were rearrested at the Mogwase taxi rank on the same day.

Lebogang Mokotleng was arrested for robbery, attempted murder, and unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, while Tshepang Raselemane was charged with robbery, possession of a firearm and ammunition, and possession of suspected stolen property.

Police spokesperson Amanda Funani has urged the public not to attempt to re-arrest the escapees, as they are considered dangerous. Instead, she has called on anyone with information about their whereabouts to contact the police immediately.
