Mother Arrested For Child Neglect After Leaving 2-Month-Old With Disabled Boyfriend

A mother has been arrested for child neglect after allegedly leaving her two-month-old infant in the care of her wheelchair-bound disabled boyfriend for several days. The incident occurred on 27 September 2023 in Rocklands, Kagisanong.

The Kagisanong police were called to a house in Rocklands following reports of child neglect. Upon arrival, they discovered that the mother was nowhere to be found, and the infant was left in the care of her boyfriend, who is wheelchair-bound due to a disability.

The Mangaung Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit, led by Sgt Tiisetso Lentsa, immediately launched a search party. After seven days of intensive investigation, the mother finally returned home on 04 October 2023 at approximately 20:50. She was subsequently arrested for child neglect.

Investigations are still ongoing to determine the whereabouts of the mother during the time she left her infant with her boyfriend. The infant has been taken for medical observation and placed in a safe environment.

The 28-year-old mother is scheduled to make her first court appearance on Friday, 06 October 2023. The charges against her include child neglect, which is a serious offence.
