Under-fire Cape Town Spurs head coach Shaun Bartlett is confident that they can turn things around on Saturday against their city rivals Cape Town City.

The first Cape Town derby since the days of Ajax Cape Town is now less than 24 hours away. The Mother City will be divided into two this coming weekend, blue and red are the the colours that will be worn in the streets of Cape Town.

After Spurs’ poor start to the season, Bartlett remains positive that this derby might be the turning point for the red and white side. The former Bafana Bafana striker stated that he is not under any pressure, his job is to continue helping the team to develop.

“Not really, it’s a job that I chose to do, nobody asked me to do it. Everybody knows it’s a thankless job because when the team wins on Saturday it’s players, not the coach,” Bartlett told iDiski Times.

“My job is to make sure that I protect my players that’s the first thing I’ll do always, to stand there for them and we’ve got to make sure that we make them better.

“Everybody is asking why no activity in the transfer window, my job as a coach is to make sure that the players i current have in the squad better, if I can’t do that then I shouldn’t be the coach.

“With the support I have of coach Nasief Morris, coach Calvin Marlin and the technical team what we’ve done in the couple of weeks we’ve prepared these players physically and mentally.

“The last couple of days has been hectic because we couldn’t train much on the field because of rain, but that gave us a chance obviously to prepare these players mentally, that maybe is gonna be needed more on Saturday than physically because with derby games it can be overwhelming with emotions and our players need to know exactly what’s gonna happen.”
