Fatally Shooting Of Truck Driver Leads To Looting

In a shocking incident that has left the community in disbelief, a 45-year-old truck driver was shot dead in Marite, just outside Hazyview in Mpumalanga.

The tragedy unfolded on Tuesday when Petros Jay Magagula, a resident of Matsulu, and his two crew members were driving on the R40 road towards Bushbuckridge for a delivery.

As they approached Marite, next to a filling station, their lives took a devastating turn. Four or five armed suspects emerged from the roadside, brandishing firearms and attempting to stop the truck by standing in the middle of the road. Fearing for their lives, Magagula swiftly made a U-turn, but unfortunately collided with another vehicle in the process.

Amidst the chaos, the suspects unleashed a hail of bullets at the truck, tragically claiming the life of Magagula. The truck eventually came to a halt after crashing into a tree, leaving one crew member with minor injuries.

While this horrifying incident alone is enough to send shockwaves through any community, what happened next is equally disturbing. Despite the victim’s lifeless body lying behind the steering wheel, some members of the public allegedly took advantage of the situation and began looting the dairy products that were inside the truck.
