Nurkovic Breaks Silence CT City & Raja Talk

Former Kaizer Chiefs and Royal AM striker Samir Nurkovic has opened up on how close he came to signing for Cape Town City or Raja Club Athletic recently.

Nurkovic, 31, has been without a club since leaving Royal AM and last made an official appearance in May 2022 for Chiefs.

After leaving Amakhosi he joined Thwihli Thwahla but things between him and the club ended with the much-reported FIFA case without the striker making any appearance.

He has now signed with TS Galaxy, but also came close to joining Cape Town City at the end of the 2022/23 season – revealing his agency and the club couldn’t agree on personal terms.

“Cape Town came and I was training with them for a little bit less than two weeks, 10 days,” he told Andile Ncube on Sports Night Amplified.

“Everything was good from my side, we just couldn’t agree on personal terms.”

Nurkovic was then on trial with Moroccan giants Raja under Josef Zinnbauer, but things again didn’t work in his favour despite the technical team wanting him.

“Well similar thing. The coaching stuff really wanted me there,” he explained.

“They know me from South Africa, they have been here. They wanted me there, I was with them in Saudi in their pre-season camp for 15 days and they’ve been happy.

“They know me as a player from before as well.

“I was doing everything that was required from me, everything else was a discussion between the club and my agency. I guess they couldn’t agree on terms and I’m back in South Africa.”

Nurkovic also explained why he finally ended up at TS Galaxy, saying he hopes he can regain his old form at the Rockets after being without a game for over a year.

“I couldn’t play for the last one year and it’s important for me to go back on the market, to go back and play,” he added.

“I see TS Galaxy as a really ambitious club. The technical stuff is really working hard and they are very good. I know Tim Sukazi from before as well.

“I watched a couple of their matches before I started talking to them and I really see them helping me and getting me back to where I was before.”
