He murdered street children in Zimbabwe, brutalizing their bodies with shattered glass bottles, cutting off their genitalia, and taking their intestines. He would then cook their flesh before eating it, either by boiling or braaiing it.

Thandolwenkosi Ndlovu, 20, was arrested by Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) and told a Harare magistrate that he would plead guilty to all allegations levelled against him.

According to H-Metro, a state-owned website, Ndlovu plans to target homeless people in various parts of Zimbabwe.

Ndlovu, who is said to have been homeless, allegedly targeted sleeping street children, crushing their skulls, cutting them open, and removing their genitals with broken bottles.

According to a ZRP statement made on Tuesday, Ndlovu, better known as Sauro, would prepare the meat before consuming it.

According to ZRP national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, Ndlovu is involved in at least five murders.

“The suspect who is believed to be living in the streets would target ‘street kids’ who (would) be fast asleep and crush them and open the victims’ stomach and remove genitals and other body parts using empty broken bottles,” Nyathi said.

“The suspect would then boil or braai the human parts on any open fire place and consume them while in the Harare central business district.”

On Monday, police officers pursued Ndlovu along Harare’s Ritten Row Road after he allegedly attempted to attack another youngster.

Following his arrest, Nyathi stated that Ndlovu was positively linked to five murder incidents that occurred in various locations, including Nelson Mandela Avenue in Harare.

Ndlovu is also linked to three other cases which happened in the city of Bulawayo in 2020, “where he crushed a victim’s head in Bellevue Suburb using a brick after he found him drunk and asleep in a yard” in January 2020.

Ndlovu is also charged with attempted murder and has an arrest warrant for a robbery that occurred in the Milton Park district of Harare in June 2021. According to Nyathi, no evidence tying the murders to ritual killings has been discovered.

“The police assures the public that enquiries are still being conducted to find out the real motive behind the suspect’s conduct and if he acted alone or not. More details will be revealed soon,” said Nyathi.
