Bafana Bafana striker Lyle Foster said he was happy to score his first Premier League goal, but not so happy the team didn’t win, while his coach Vincent Kompany praised the Orlando Pirates youth product.
Foster, 22, netted his first Premier League goal in Burnley’s 3-1 defeat to Aston Villa on Sunday, which was also the club’s first goal back in the top flight.
However, it didn’t result in three points for the Clarets, who are yet to win a game after their promotion to the English top flight – with Foster’s mood also a bit dampened after the match.
“I’m super-happy, it’s super-special,” he told the club’s media team.
“It doesn’t feel as nice not winning, but I’m happy to have scored the first goal back in the Prem.”
Despite started the league with two defeats, Foster insisted that he has full confidence in his side and the technical team.
“I’m 100% confident to be fair,” he added.
“All the confidence in the group, in the players, in the staff. I’m just waiting for our moment.
“Obviously, like I said, we’re a relatively new team. We’re coming together now, but the talent in the squad is unbelievable.
“Fairly young squad, I think we can only grow from this, we can only get better, so I’m looking forward to it.”
His coach was also full of praise for the Bafana striker, saying Foster had already shown good signs during the pre-season.
“We can’t forget his age, he’s still fairly young. But he’s just continuing what we’ve seen in the entire pre-season,” he explained.

“He has speed to run in behind, he’s strong to hold the ball up and he’s able to combine with his teammates and able to score a goal as well.
“For him we’re obviously really pleased, but for the team the reward will be the first time we win a game.”
Foster and Burnley return to action on Saturday when they host Tottenham Hotspur at Turf Moor at 16:00.
