Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has revealed the reasons behind Patrick Maswanganyi’s good form since arriving at the club.
Maswanganyi was one of the Soweto giants’ acquisitions ahead of the 2023/24 PSL season from SuperSport United. In the pre-season tour in Spain, he showed glimpses of what to expect from him.
When the new season started, he continued with his great form, helping the team in the final third. So far this season, the 25-year-old has made five appearances in Pirates colours.
He has scored one goal and provided two assists in the process, providing his worth as he was a surprise signing by Pirates.
JOSE RIVEIRO ON PATRICK MASWANGANYI’S FORM
According to the Spanish mentor, Maswanganyi has hit the ground running at the club because he’s surrounded by good players who all have a common goal of succeeding.
“For me, if I have to highlight something with the new players, new in this environment, playing for Pirates, it’s not an easy thing,” said Riveiro.
“[You have to] start to show the level from the first day, and the first game is something to highlight. Happy to see the progression of the guy [Patrick Maswanganyi. It’s very important that he’s around good players. It makes it easy for every individual in the team.”
HOW JOSE RIVEIRO INTENDS TO GET THE BEST OUT OF ORLANDO PIRATES PLAYERS
Riveiro, who is not a fan of individualizing players, further highlighted that his aim is to work as a collective so all the players can perform to the best of their ability.
“We try to focus as much as we can on the collective and understanding that the collective structure is going to help each and every player to shine and perform at the best level.
“It doesn’t matter who is playing. We try to do it in the same way with different details every player is going to do,” he added.
