A former SA National Defence Force solider and father of twins has been sentenced to 20 years behind bars after he pleaded guilty to r@ping his girlfriend’s 12-year-old daughter.

The incident took place in their shared home on Blueberry Street while the girl’s siblings were present.

During his plea, which was read by his appointed lawyer, advocate Jodine Coertzen, the man explained that on the day of the incident, he was left alone with the children when the girl’s mother and her aunt went to a nearby shop around 5pm.

He admitted that he locked the security gate behind them and, driven by wrongful intentions, proceeded to force the girl into his room.

“I realized that what I was about to do was wrong, but I continued regardless. She tried to scream, but I covered her mouth with my hand.”

He confessed that he briefly committed the act before the girl managed to kick him away. Upon her mother and aunt’s return, she revealed the assault to them.

“When confronted, I initially denied my actions, but the mother and aunt physically confronted me. I then left,” he said.

He was apprehended three days later. DNA evidence collected from the girl confirmed his guilt.

Following a plea agreement with the state, he was sentenced to 20 years in prison. Judge Ivana Bands accepted the plea and ordered that his name be added to the national sex offender register.
