Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has named a 36-name preliminary squad for the upcoming friendly matches against Namibia and DR Congo next month.
Broos’ men will face Namibia and DR Congo in two friendlies next month after successfully qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire in January next year
The team are currently on a seven-match unbeaten run that climaxed in their 2-1 win over Africa’s highest-ranked team Morocco.
In preparations for the AFCON, and the qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in November, Bafana Bafana will face Namibia on 9 September and DR Congo on 12 September.
The preliminary squad will still be trimmed from 36 to 23 players next week when Broos announces his final list for the two matches.
After there were previously no players from Kaizer Chiefs in Broos’ latest selection, the Belgian tactician has named Given Msimango, S’fiso Hlanti and Pule Mmodi in his provisional squad.
Meanwhile, Orlando Pirates duo Sipho Chaine and Thabiso Moyane received their first call-ups. Keenan Allan (Moroka Swallows), Zuko Mdunyelwa (Chippa United) and Mlungisi Mbunjana (TS Galaxy), who were part of previous COSAFA/CHAN squads also made the selection.
One of the big surprises is the inclusion of uncapped SuperSport United teenage defender Eme Okon, who was recently praised by Gavin Hunt.
