Mamelodi Sundowns defender Lyle Lakay has agreed to a permanent move to SuperSport United, iDiski Times has learnt.
The 31-year-old joined Sundowns from Cape Town City at the beginning of 2018/19 season after he had a great campaign in the mother city.
During his time at Downs he won seven trophies including four league titles and he was named DStv Premiership Defender Of The Season in 2021/22 before returning to Cape Town City on loan in 2022/23 campaign.
He was recently part of the Bafana Bafana squad that finished in third place at the COSAFA Cup, where he was handed the armband by Morena Ramoreboli, featuring in all five games.
This publication has learnt that Lakay agreed to a permanent move to Sundowns arch-rivals SuperSport, where he will put pen to paper on a two-year deal.
He won’t be new to the side, as he started his professional career at Matsatsantsa in 2009 and spent three years in Pretoria before moving to Bloemfontein Celtic in 2012.
‘Lalas’ is expected to be a suitable candidate in the left-back position for Gavin Hunt and he also comes with a lot of experience when it comes to continental football, which could help SSU after they qualified for the CAF Confederations Cup.
