SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt says he knows “the true story” over the signing of Terrence Dzvukamanja after Orlando Pirates had cried foul over Matsatsantsa’s approach in a public statement.
Dzvukamanja’s move to SuperSport caught Pirates by surprise, with the Soweto giants claiming he requested to be let go so he can sort out his personal issues back at home in Zimbabwe.
The Buccaneers had released a statement on Monday, explaining their version of events, saying they wanted to give Dzvukamanja “compassionate leave” to sort out his issues but wanted to include him in their CAF Champions League squad for the 2023/24 season.
They further stated they were left surprised by Matsatsantsa’s approach and opted to “release him to SuperSport”, who confirmed his signing for an “undisclosed fee” on Friday.
Dzvukamanja was out of contract with Pirates, but they came close to letting him go to SuperSport in the January transfer window before loaning Zakhele Lepasa instead.
The Zim striker, having remained behind at Pirates, reclaimed his starting spot under Jose Riveiro and fired the Soweto giants to the Nedbank Cup title, scoring the winning goal against Sekhukhune United in the final.
Pirates were said to have agreed personal terms with him to remain at the club despite his contract having expired at the end of June, but he will now hunt for goals for SSU after the latest turn of events.
Hunt, speaking to the media in Durban at Riverside Hotel, laughed, saying: “I know the truth but the truth obviously can’t be revealed”.
He then added: “It hasn’t been nice what has gone on in the media and obviously there has been a backlash, but I do know the truth and the whole story, everything from day one.
“I sleep well, I have a clear conscience and that’s all we can do and try and concentrate going forward so that is all we can.
“It is important that the boy settles down. He has been here for two days now. It feels like home for him again.
“Well, not again, but with me, I know him well. I tried to get him in January, which we should have gotten in January.

“He’s versatile player – he can play four positions, so that is important for the club of our stature. We need players that are versatile that can play certain four positions across the front.
“He will add huge value, I know, having watched him in the last two days at training. He will have a huge value for us.”
With some clouds over the transfer after Pirates had cried foul in a recent statement, iDiski Times asked Hunt, if the club had done anything wrong over how the move was done as Pirates felt hard done by his departure.
“I don’t know, it’s not for me to say,” the coach stated.
“As I said, I know the true story and we won’t come out and make any statement about it. Let’s concentrate to get the boy settled and get him in the club – that is what we have done.
“Everything has been done properly.”
