Mabena Closes In On New Club After Pirates Exit

Former Orlando Pirates striker Ndumiso Mabena has arrived at newly promoted side Polokwane City.

Mabena recently left Pirates after just six months after joining the Buccaneers during the 2022 FIFA World Cup break.

The 36-year-old had joined the Sea Robbers as a free agent after leaving Royal AM in December.

However, the former Bloemfontein Celtic captain only made one appearance in Jose Riveiro’s team and that was against DStv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns in February, even though his off-pitch influence on the squad was praised.

Mabena has now resurfaced at newly-promoted Polokwane City with hope of signing a contract, and, according to a close source, the 2011/12 treble winner is already training with Rise and Shine.

City have already signed Oswin Appollis from Pretoria Callies as they boost their squad for 2023/24 season.
