US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump received a royal welcome at Windsor Castle on Wednesday, 17 September.

This marked the start of a two-day state visit to the United Kingdom.

DONALD TRUMP IN LONDON

They arrived by helicopter from London, where King Charles III and Queen Camilla greeted them. They then rode in a horse-drawn carriage through the Windsor estate.

This is Trump’s second official state visit to Britain, a rare honour that no other American president has received, according to The New York Times.

DONALD TRUMP’S LAST VISIT

His first was in 2019 at Buckingham Palace, but this time, Windsor Castle is hosting the event while the palace undergoes renovations.

“My relationship is very good with the U.K., and Charles. You know, who’s now king, is my friend,” Trump said before leaving Washington.

“And it’s the first time this has ever happened where somebody was honoured twice, so it’s a great honour.” He added with a smile, “They say Windsor Castle is the ultimate, right?”

WHY IS HE IN THE U.K.?

Donald Trump’s visit to the United Kingdom strengthens diplomatic ties and reaffirms the relationship between Washington and London.

The two-day state visit, hosted with full royal pageantry at Windsor Castle, reflects Britain’s rare gesture of honouring him with a second state visit.

ROYALTY MEETS POLITICS FOR LUNCH

The Trumps joined the King and Queen for a private lunch inside the Windsor Castle. They then planned to lay a wreath at Queen Elizabeth II’s tomb in St George’s Chapel.

Tonight, St George’s Hall will host a state banquet, with Trump’s allies and officials also attending, according to BBC.

MEETING THE PRIME MINISTER

On Thursday, Donald Trump will meet Prime Minister Keir Starmer at Chequers. The two leaders will sign agreements and hold a joint press conference.

The visit unfolds amid political turbulence. Over the weekend, far-right activist Tommy Robinson led protests in London, described as one of the largest of its kind in Britain.
