AmaZulu’s new head coach Pablo Franco Martin has revealed what he aims to achieve with the KwaZulu-Natal giants.

The Spanish tactician has joined Usuthu on a 36-month-long deal and he made it clear that he knows “how huge and important” AmaZulu are.

The KZN side finished 12th last season in the DStv Premiership only registering seven wins in 30 matches.

“I am really excited. I have known for a long time about AmaZulu, following them. I know how huge and important this club is,” Franco Martin said on the club’s website.

“And I am going there with the intention of making history by bringing the team back to the place it deserves. To make everyone, especially the fans and people in the club proud.”

“I have been watching the PSL for a long time, I think it is around four or five years now. There are also some players who have played in that league that I have coached before,” he added.

“I often talk to them and discuss the level there. I know it is a competitive league, and any team can beat anyone.”

The former Real Madrid assistant manager, who has a UEFA Pro License, has been nicknamed Cijimpi by AmaZulu president Sandile Zungu.

Cijimpi had a stint with Tanzanian side Simba SC during the 2021-22 season and he believes Usuthu are a better side.

“I already have experience playing against Orlando Pirates in the Caf competitions,” the 43-year-old tactician continued.

“At that time you could see that level in a team from Tanzania, even if it is a big team like Simba and Pirates.

“We were however capable of competing against them. And if I could do it with Simba being inferior, I am sure I can do better with AmaZulu and fight for titles.”
