Mbappe Makes Shock PSG Decision – Report

Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe has told Paris Saint-Germain that he will not stay with the club beyond 2024.

The news have sent shockwaves through the football fraternity and are understood to have taken PSG’s leadership by surprise.

According to L’Equipe and the New York Times, Mbappe has informed PSG via an official letter that will not trigger a clause in his contract until 2025 and wants to leave when his current deal expires next year in June.

Mbappe’s decision could force PSG to sell the arguably most-valuable player of his generation in the current transfer window instead of risking losing him for free after the 2023/24 campaign.

PSG’s top officials were said to be taken by surprise about Mbappe’s letter, and learned of it after first being contacted by a French news outlet claiming it had received a copy before it was sent to the club.

Neither a spokesperson of Mbappe, nor the club responded to requests for comments.

Fabrizio Romano has since also confirmed the news, claiming PSG are not prepared to lose Mbappe for free, meaning he either has to sign a new deal or leave in the current window.

The 24-year-old, who was named Ligue 1 Player of the Season and also claimed the golden boot, was close to leaving the French giants last year, after being heavily courted by Real Madrid, but decided in the 11th hour to extend his deal at PSG.

Mbappe’s decision could renew the interest of Los Blancos, with PSG expected to fetch a massive fee should they sell their superstar.

The French transfer window opens in 19 days.

Mbappe joined PSG from Monaco for €180 million in 2018 after an initial loan. He has since scored 212 goals in 260 appearances, setting up 98 more.
