In a landmark move aimed at promoting regional integration and Pan-African solidarity, Burkina Faso has officially scrapped visa fees for all citizens of African countries.

The decision, announced by the military-led government, is intended to boost tourism, attract investment, and strengthen economic ties across the continent.

The policy change was approved during a cabinet meeting chaired by the country’s leader, Captain Ibrahim Traoré.

According to the Minister of Security, Mahamoudou Sana, the initiative is expected to draw more visitors to the nation and showcase its vibrant cultural heritage.

The government’s information service added that the new policy will also foster closer economic and regional cooperation.

This action aligns with the broader vision of the African Union for free movement across the continent and places Burkina Faso alongside countries such as Ghana, Rwanda, and Kenya that have implemented similar open-border policies.

Captain Traoré’s junta, which came to power in 2022, has often voiced criticism of colonial legacies and Western influence.
