Former Chippa United and Royal AM Coach Mike Lukhubene has tragically died in Cape Town during an incident at the Coke Cup tournament.
Lukhubene, a well-known figure in South African and Western Cape Football worked with several clubs in the Cape region and won the ABC Motsepe League with Steenberg and Zizwe while he also had stints with Chippa United and Royal AM.
iDiski Times were informed on Sunday afternoon about a gun incident involving two males, one of them understood to be Lukhubene, on the field at the Coke Cup during a match where his Tottenham side from the Mannenberg Local Football Association (LFA) competed this weekend.
While details of the incident remain unclear, this publication has heard voice notes which confirm the tragic passing of the coach. According to reports, both males were declared dead on the scene.
Sadly it’s the second gun incident in local football this week after shots were fired at the ABC Motsepe League play-offs after Orbit College had beaten local KZN team Umsinga United at Harry Gwala Stadium on Friday.
We at iDiski Times would like to express our heartfelt condolences to Lukhubene’s family, friends and the football fraternity at large.
