Kholeka Dubula Sosibo, a gospel artist, was among the many South Africans who were rattled by an earthquake in Gauteng at roughly 02:38 on Sunday, 11 June.
A 4.7 magnitude earthquake was reported in Gauteng’s East Rand by the Council for Geoscience. The earthquake measured around 5.0 on the Richter scale, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS) and the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC).
The tremor was reportedly believed to have struck roughly 10km below the surface and 16km south-east of Johannesburg.
“The epicenter was located in the Boksburg area a few kilometers outside East Rand Proprietarty Mine, in the East Rand of Johannesburg”.
Residents in Gauteng rushed to social media in reaction to the incident, with some reporting structural damage.
One of those affected is gospel singer Kholeka, who turned to Twitter to share a video of the devastation caused by the earthquake in her Boksburg home.
“I’m in Boksburg, this is what has happened to my house. Matthew 24 told us of what is to come,” she wrote.
