Excited Netball SA boss Molokwane on van Dyk’s appointment

Posted on July 15, 2025

Netball SA has a new Spar Proteas coach Jenny van Dyk and president Cecilia Molokwane explains the appointment.

Van Dyk replaces Norma Plummer who was in charge of the netball team during the World Cup last year, Molokwane says the new coach a perfect for the job.

Molokwane says the selection process was not an easy one but she is excited with van Dyk’s appointment as Proteas coach.

Speaking to SABC Sport, Molokwane says they are convinced van Dyk is the right person for the netball national team coaching job.

The Netball SA boss says they learned from past mistakes after appointing Dorette Badenhorst who was later fired.

WHY MOLOKWANE IS EXCITED ABOUT NEW NETBALL COACH VAN DYK

Following Badenhorst’s appointment, senior Proteas players allegedly, senior voiced concerns about her netball coaching philosophy.

”They had to go for interviews, they had to apply first – we advertised, which is something we did not do in 2019,” says Molokwane about van Dyk’s appointment.

“Safeguarding policy in sport is very important.

”We made sure that we are not taking the wrong person – who will abuse our players.

“They had to do presentations and take us through their plans for the national team.”

VAN DYK BRINGS A WINNING MENTALITY TO THE PROTEAS

Meanwhile, taking a glance at van Dyk’s achievements, Molokwane adds that winning 68 medals justifies the new coach’s hiring.

Furthermore, Molokwane also adds that Netball SA is searching for a U21 coach to replace van Dyk.

“As I said 68 medals, 17 silvers, 11 bronze,” adds Netball SA boss, Molokwane.

“Her performance has shown, you have seen how she has fared.

“We took her to under-21, not knowing that today we will be announcing her as the head coach for the senior team.

”We have an assistant coach by the name of Precious Mthembu.

“If she’s willing – she can take the team forward.”
