Stellenbosch FC have announced seven players will leave the club upon the expiry of their contracts.
The Cape-Winelands side have been quiet in the transfer window so far, but have signed Oscarine Masuluke from Baroka FC, as first reported by this publication.
Several of their players have been linked with moves, but head coach Steve Barker insisted they want to keep their best players to further progress as a club.
On Thursday, they announced the departure of several fringe players, with the biggest name probably Juan Carlos Ortiz, who has returned to his homeland Venezuela after a season-and-a-half in South Africa with Stellenbosch.
Ortiz arrived at the club in January 2022 and scored twice in his first five games before picking a serious knee injury, which kept him sidelined until April.
He featured seven times since, including a cameo off the bench in the Nedbank Cup which ended tragically as he missed the final penalty when Stellenbosch got knocked out against Sekhukhune United in the semi-final, leaving the player completely devastated and inconsolable.
“Reid Bombay, Keegan Pool, Solomon Letsoenyo, Solly Khunyedi, Lance Weaver, Juan Carlos Ortíz, and Glen Hahn will all part ways with Stellenbosch FC at the end of the season following the expiry of their respective contracts,” Stellenbosch confirmed via a statement.
“The Club would like to wish all seven players well in the next chapter of their careers and thank them for their dedicated service in the maroon and gold jersey.”
