Njabulo Blom’s St Louis City continue to impress in their debut season in the MLS under the tutelage of South African coach Bradley Carnell.

City have taken the league by storm this season, their first as they are an extension team, punching well above their weight.

They are currently sitting pretty at the summit of the table in the Western Conference with 28 points from 14 matches.

City are a point clear of second-placed Seattle Saunders having played three games less than their rivals.

They eased past Houston Dynamo 3-0  at City Park on Sunday morning to maintain their recent winning run and extend it to three matches on the spin.

Blom, who now appears to have fully settled in the MLS, produced another assured performance in the middle of the park.

The former Kaizer Chiefs midfield grafter who has been dubbed “the stopper” in the MLS, played the full 90 minutes once again.

Blom might not have had the best start to the season as he struggled with injuries and illness, but he is now performing consistently.

Carnell will be pleased with his compatriot’s recent exploits in the colors of City, with the Bafana Bafana midfielder showing his worth.

Meanwhile, it was another frustrating day for Bongokuhle Hlongwane and his side Minnesota United in the MLS as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Toronto FC.

The Loons, as Minnesota are also known, are winless in their last four matches in all competitions, including a painful 4-0 thumping at the hands of Dynamo in the US Open Cup.

Their recent struggles have coincided with Hlongwane’s recent dip in form with the former Martzburg United star finding it a bit tougher to rattle the back of the net lately.

Nevertheless, Hlongwane remains the Loons’ most potent weapon upfront having scored six goals in 16 matches so far this season.
