Pitso Shares Opinion On Riveiro At Pirates

Former Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has hailed the impact of Jose Riveiro at Orlando Pirates after he won the domestic cup double in his debut campaign.

Mosimane, 58, made a brief visit to South Africa amid clouds over his own future at Al Ahli Saudi FC.

Despite leading the club back into the Saudi Pro League and also securing the Yelo League (First Division) title, Al Ahli’s management seem keen to go with a European coach into the 2023/24 season.

While Mosimane insisted he had a one-year extension clause in his contract that was triggered when he gained promotion, the club’s leadership are understood to think they won’t trigger the one-year option.

While a crunch meeting between Mosimane and the club’s leadership seems inevitable, he took some time to shift the focus on Mzansi, hailing the impact of Riveiro after he lifted the Nedbank Cup and MTN8 in his debut campaign in South Africa.

“First I must congratulate the Buccaneers,” he told Skepe Matsebane on POWERSportExtra.

“The coach, first year, two trophies, I’m very much impressed.

“I’ve been listening to him about formations and tactics, he’s very spot on, he know his stuff and he is calm, humble and he’s done very well.

“You know my opinion about European coaches coming to South Africa, this is what we need to see. This is value added, brilliant.

“This is what we need from European coaches in South Africa.”
