Orlando Pirates centre-back Sandile Mthethwa has singled out his best moments of the 2022/23 PSL season.
Mthethwa returned to the Soweto giants ahead of the just-ended campaign following a loan deal with Chippa United.
He spent three seasons with the Chilli Boys from 2019/20 to 2021/22.
On his return to the Sea Robbers, he struggled for game time as the coaches preferred the combination of Tapelo Xoki and Nkosinathi Sibisi.
Due to injuries and rotation, the 26-year-old started getting some minutes. His first match in Pirates colours was in December 2022 against Mamelodi Sundowns coming in as a substitute.
He ended up playing 13 matches in all competitions and helped the team to keep five cleansheets.
SANDILE MTHETHWA’S BEST MOMENTS
Mthethwa picked the Nedbank Cup quarter-final tie against Dondol Stars FC and a league match against Cape Town City FC as his best.
Against Dondol, he scored the winning penalty to send the team to the semi-finals. When facing CT City, he played 90 minutes for the first time in the season.
“Recently, I started a match at Orlando Stadium [against Cape Town City FC]. It was my first time since I came to the club,” Mthethwa told PiratesTV.
“It meant a lot to me because each and everytime I was playing at Chippa [United] I was always saying I want to start a match at Orlando Stadium.
“I want to play for people who are giving everything for Orlando Pirates and I want to show that I’m here at the club because I deserve to be here.
“We won the game and I finished the game. I played 90 minutes.
SANDILE MTHETHWA ON SCORING THE WINNING PENALTY
“I just told myself let me keep calm, I’m going to score. When the coaches put me as a sub, they wanted me to take the penalty because they trusted me. I was happy with the penalty,” he added.
