Mamelodi Sundowns forward Cassius Mailula admits some of the senior players have humbled him in the dressing room this season.
The 2022/23 season has been nothing short of remarkable for the 21-year-old who rose from obscurity after injury troubles to the limelight and the forefront of Masandawana.
He featured 31 times, scoring 15 goals and registering four assists in all competitions before scooping the PSL Young Player of the Season on Sunday.
But with all the praise and adulation that has also seen him become a full senior international, before ever representing the country at junior level, he admits some of the key figure have kept him grounded.
“They have been good human beings, they have been so supportive and helped me a lot seeing the potential I have and also humbling me,” he said when asked about the senior players in the dressing room.
“They always tell me after or before the games to pick up the dirt in the dressing room, so they have actually been good human beings.
“I think that’s one of the things young players forget to do, we have to respect them and ask for advice, so they have helped me a lot, giving me advice especially not to listen to the praise, sometimes it can kill you, so they have helped me well.”
Mailula has been included in the 35-man preliminary Bafana Bafana squad set to face Morocco this month at on June 17 at FNB Stadium for their final 2023 AFCON qualifier.
