Mpheni Home Defenders Aiming For Promotion

Limpopo ABC Motsepe League Champions, Mpheni Home Defenders chairman and coach Sydwell Phuravhathu says all they want is to get promoted to the Motsepe Foundation Championship and won’t be fazed by the occasion.

Mpheni have been drawn in Group C at the national playoffs alongside side with regular campaigners Orbit College and Mpumalanga champions Mlambo Royal Cubs.

This is the Vhembe-based outfit’s first appearance at the national playoffs with Phuravhathu saying he is confident Mpheni will rise to the occasion.

“The group is a tough one. We need to be at our best in order to top the group. Bear in mind that all these teams are provincial winners, they are very good and we are also good but we must respect them,” Phuravhathu told iDiski Times.

“I think it’s going to be tough so we are going there to fight and make sure we top the group so that we advance to the semi-finals.

“That’s our intention. It’s our first time in the national playoffs but remember results are not about how many times you have been there. If you have been there four or five times it means you failed to progress on four occasions.

“And there are teams that come there for the first time and go we can talk about the likes of La Masia and we can talk about Macabbi back then. They went there once and then progressed.

“We are underdogs and we will go there and express ourselves with how we play, enjoy the occasion and not let the occasion carry us in a way that we forget our priority which is to get promotion.”

Mpheni will depart Limpopo for Kwa Zulu Natal on Sunday with their first match on Wednesday 7 June against Mlambo.
