Al Jazira are set for a shake-up next season with star midfielder Thulani Serero and head coach Marcel Keizer set to leave the club.

Keizer, who coached the South Africa international during their time together at AFC Ajax, lures Serero to the Gulf when he was appointed back in 2019.

Together they have on the UEA Pro League, UEA Pro Cup and competed at the 2021 FIFA Club World Cup which was hosted in Abu Dhabi.

Serero was a clear fan favourite during his time over the past four seasons and notably one of the leading performers in the league, but with his contract set to expire, him, alongside the Dutchman will depart at the end of their contracts this month.

Both have been non-commital in UAE media over speaking about their futures but after finishing fifth, 11 points behind champions Shabab Al Ahli, the club agreed it was time to move into a new direction.

The 33-year-old midfielder has spent the last 13 seasons abroad after leaving Ajax Cape Town for their affiliate club where he spent six seasons and won for league titles.

He then moved on to Eredivisie outfit Vitesse for two campaigns before the lucrative riches of the Gulf where he’s starred over the past three seasons.
