Riveiro Improves SA Football – Truter

Sekhukhune United coach Brandon Truter was full of praise for Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro, saying the Spaniard is not just adding numbers to the league, but immense quality.

Between Truter and Riveiro, one will lift their first ever Nedbank Cup trophy on Saturday, with both coaches appearing in their first ever Ke Yona Cup final.

Ahead of Saturday’s final, which has been confirmed as sold out by the Premier Soccer League, Truter was waxing lyrical about his counterpart in the sidelines, who has debunked some myths of foreign coaches not living up to expectations.

“Jose has done fantastically well this season,” he said when asked by iDiski Times.

“In terms of the strides that he made at the club, at Pirates, creating an identity as well.

“This is the type of coaches we should be attracting to the PSL, in terms of adding value to the product, in terms of helping our development in South Africa as a country where football is going.

“I think Pirates at this stage has a clear identity of attractive, attacking football and that’s how you want football to be played in the end of the day.

“That identity is clear, also with the striker’s coach and coach Mandla [Ncikazi] as well.

“I think they’ve bridged some gaps there on foreign coaches coming into the country as well, it’s not just adding numbers, but adding quality to the league.”

While Truter could lift the first major trophy of his coaching career after guiding Babina Noko into their first ever final, Riveiro could complete the cup double in his debut season.

Back in November, they beat AmaZulu in the MTN8 final thanks to a goal by PSL Footballer of the Season nominee Monnapule Saleng.
