A tragic turn of events marred Khomotso Mafolo’s graduation day as she mourned the loss of three family members in a devastating car accident. The University of Mpumalanga graduate was preparing to celebrate her academic achievement when her father, Jacob Mafolo, her sister, Metron Sekgoka, and her twin brother, Kamogelo Mafolo, lost their lives in a collision while en route to her graduation ceremony.

The accident occurred as the family was traveling to the University of Mpumalanga to support Khomotso on her special day. Sadly, their vehicle collided with a truck, resulting in the immediate and tragic loss of all three family members.

The Mafolo family has been inundated with messages of condolence and support from friends and loved ones during this difficult time.

Authorities from the Mpumalanga Police have opened an investigation into the accident, classifying it as a case of culpable homicide.

In a heartbreaking post on her TikTok account, Khomotso shared the devastating news of her family’s passing. She expressed her grief, stating, “Lost my dad, my twin brother, and my sister on my graduation day. They were coming to attend my graduation, then God decided otherwise. Daddy, your princess did this for you.”

Despite the tragic loss, Khomotso’s academic journey at the University of Mpumalanga must be acknowledged. The 22-year-old successfully completed her Bachelor of Development Studies degree and is now pursuing an Honours degree in the same field.

The University of Mpumalanga held its graduation ceremonies on May 12 and 13, 2023, celebrating the accomplishments of graduates who had completed their qualifications during the previous academic year.
