Khanyisa Mayo’s hard work pays off at last

Khanyisa Mayo’s hard work in the 2022/23 season has finally paid off after the player was honoured at Cape Town City’s year-end Awards Ceremony. 

This comes after the Citizens have acknowledged their players and technical staff members for their contributions for the 2022/23 campaign.

The Cape club, host the Awards Ceremony each year to celebrate the club’s achievements upon the conclusion of the DStv Premiership season. 

City’s stars who stood out this term were presented with the Player of the Season, Players’ Player of Season, Young Player of Season, Citizen Award, Long Service Award, and the Chairman’s Award.

KHANYISA MAYO VOTED CAPE TOWN CITY PLAYER OF THE SEASON 

Mayo walked away with the Player of the Season accolade after scoring a brace against Richards Bay in a league on Saturday afternoon at Athlone Stadium.  

The brace saw the Bafana Bafana international become the joint top goal scorer with Mamelodi Sundowns forward Peter Shalulile in the PSL with one game left to play. 

For the second year in a row, Taariq Fielies won the Players’ Player of the Season. The club’s vice-captain, Fielies, received majority votes from his peers for his continuous class and character in every match this season, coupled with some fantastic goals.

The Young Player of the Season award went to Jaedin Rhodes. The 21-year-old talented footballer showed his worth in the DStv Diski Challenge [DDC] and the PSL from an Academy product to a first-team regular. 

Keanu Cupido won The Citizen Award. According to the club, this award honours a player who gives his all to the team. Remaining patient throughout his City career and establishing himself as a rock-solid defender with a Midas touch. 

Thabo Nodada received The Long Service Award. City described Nodada as a true gentleman who represents the club’s values of loyalty and hard work. 

Lastly, Cebolakhe Tshabalala and Mvuseleli Nokwali both won The Chairman’s Award. The award is to honour the duo for their dedication and exemplary service to the club. 

As things stand, Erick Tinkler’s side is sit fifth on the log standings with 42 points after 29 outings.
