‘Three points never tasted so sweet’

It’s safe to say SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt thoroughly enjoyed getting one over his former employers, Kaizer Chiefs.

Hunt masterminded Matsatsantsa a Pitori’s 1-0 win over the Glamour Boys in a DStv Premiership match on Saturday afternoon. The game was played at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium.

GAVIN HUNT BACK TO HAUNT KAIZER CHIEFS

Gamphani Lungu was on the scoresheet for the Tshwane outfit as they handed Amakhosi their third successive defeat in all competitions.

Arthur Zwane’s side seem to be enduring a tough period as the season winds down. Amakhosi lost to Swallows FC, Orlando Pirates and SuperSport in their last three matches.

Chiefs are set to end yet another campaign without any silverware in their cabinet. They were dumped out of the Nedbank Cup by arch-rivals Pirates.

And any hopes of securing a CAF Champions League spot next season were dashed by Hunt’s Matsatsantsa. At the same time, SuperSport kept their own hopes alive.

For Hunt, the victory over his former club Chiefs was that much sweeter as he reminded his former employers what they lost when they sacked him.

“Three points never tasted so sweet, “ an ecstatic Hunt reacted on social media after the game.

“Thank you to everyone who came out to support today.”

GAVIN HUNT’S STRUGGLES AT KAIZER CHIEFS

Hunt, who endured a tumultuous eight month spell with Amakhosi, has redeemed himself back at his old stomping ground with SuperSport.

The three-time league winner struggled to guide Chiefs back to their former glory during his time at the club. He was shown the door with two years remaining on his contract.

The experienced tactician had been appointed to steer the club back to the top after the sacking of Ernst Middendorp the previous season.

Although he was unable to make a strong mark on the domestic front, Hunt did lead Amakhosi to a Champions League semi-final, for the first time in their history.
