Kadodia Rues Costly Mistakes In Defence & Attack

Maritzburg United chairman Farook Kadodia says he is working hard behind the scenes to ensure that his players don’t crumble under pressure against Stellenbosch, but also admitted his side has made too many mistakes.

Maritzburg are at the bottom of the DStv Premiership table with 26 points after 28 matches, three points behind 15th-placed Chippa United and 14th-placed Marumo Gallants.

They find themselves with their back against the wall, as the goal difference is not in their favour, as they are on -17, while Chippa and Gallants are -11 and -5 respectively.

Maritzburg will have beat Stellenbosch FC at Harry Gwala Stadium on Saturday (15:00), otherwise their chances of survival might be over on the penultimate day of the season for the club.

“I have done a lot of things behind the scenes to help them, which I normally do,” said Kadodia.

“But the thing is that, you also have to understand that we threw so many points away because of silly mistakes at the back and also the failure to attack to score goals.

“I mean it is not only one side, it is at the back the mistakes we are making that cost us at least seven or eight points in this year alone, not the whole season.

“The whole season is worse, but this year, since Fadlu Davids is here, we have been making a lot of mistakes that cost us at least seven to eight points. We don’t seem to be a team that wants to score goals.”

Kadodia was left bitterly disappointed when his side led twice against relegation rivals Marumo Gallants last week Wednesday at home, conceding in the last minute where the defence was ball watching instead of attacking the ball to clear the danger.

“Of course I mean we threw away two goals and we basically didn’t do anything to make those goals [we conceded], we gave them those goals,” Kadodia said in a shouting tone.

“That was our cry.”
