Orlando Pirates fans will breath a sigh of relief when they hear the news that a midfielder will not be leaving the club at the end of the season.

The good news is in! Thabang Monare is staying put. It’s been rumoured for some time that the 33-year-old is set to be rewarded with a contract extension which will keep him at the club beyond this season.

“Thabang Monare will sign a new contract with Orlando Pirates. ‘He’ll sign for two years,’ confirms our source.” posted @UnplayableZA on Twitter.

Pirates keep star player

Monare‘s resurgence at Orlando Pirates has made for quite the story considering that last year it was announced that he was one of the players who would be leaving the Buccaneers.

The same source revealed that Pirates are said to have parted ways with midfielder Nkanyiso Zungu. After making a few inconsistent appearances for the Natal Rich Boyz this season, the 27-year-old Zungu was sent packing out of Richards Bay. The Soweto giants have also taken the decision not to welcome back the former AmaZulu and Stellenbosch star.

Interestingly, it’s now been revealed by English football legend Ian Wright that Jele is the man who inspired him to support the Buccaneers.

“I am a Buccaneer, I remember when I was with Happy Jele. Happy is the one who made me say, ‘I am supporting you, Happy’,” Wright told SuperSport TV.

“I saw [Saturday’s] game [between Pirates and Chiefs], and I saw the highlights of the game, it was a great game. For me, I am a Pirates fan, I am with Pirates forever.”
