Sekhukhune United defender Daniel Cardoso has hailed former Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport United defender Morgan Gould for his great work at Babina Noko.

Gould, 40, who won two Premier Soccer League titles with Matsatsantsa and two with Amakhosi, hung up his boots after the 2020/21 season and is now assistant coach to Brandon Truter at Sekhukhune.

Ahead of Sunday’s Nedbank Cup semi-final at Stellenbosch FC, Cardoso has hailed Gould for the outstanding work he has been doing on the sidelines, saying more coaches should be as honest as he is.

“Morgan has been great. I’ve worked with him at Chiefs, I’ve worked with him at Jomo Cosmos,” he told journalists.

“He’s been great since he’s been here. He’s an honest man, he tells you how it is. If he doesn’t like what you’re doing, he’ll tell you straight up. And I think that’s what we need, a lot more honesty with some of our coaches.

“He’s been great. He’s shuffled us well, he’s worked with us well. He’s always telling the players who aren’t playing to keep pushing us. If it wasn’t for the 11 that aren’t making the team or the rest of the squad that are not making the team we wouldn’t be where we are today.

“We wouldn’t be challenged. They make it very difficult here for us and all because of him.”

Sekhukhune take on Stellies at Dance Craven Stadium at 18:00 on Sunday, when a place in the Nedbank Cup final is up for grabs. Both teams have never reached this stage of the competition and are aiming to lift their first Ke Yona trophy.
