Marumo Gallants are still in the danger zone after their 2-0 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns in a DStv Premiership clash at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday night.
Rulani Mokwena‘s charges started the showdown on the front foot, with Thapelo Morena registering the season’s fastest goal as he broke the deadlock in just 25 seconds.
The match had to be played today due to both sides’ commitments in CAF Interclub competitions. The game was initially scheduled for Saturday, 13 May 2023.
And this was Marumo’s last home game of the 2022/23 PSL season.
Despite Masandawana taking the lead, Bahlabane ba Ntwa was never discouraged. They started pushing forward in numbers to find an equaliser.
As the first period wore on, the hosts couldn’t capitalise on their clear-cut chances as Bafana Ba Style remained solid at the back.
However, Sundowns upped the ante and continued to take command of the match.
MAMELODI SUNDOWNS LEADING AT THE BREAK
After a fascinating first half, the contest went into the interval with the Brazilians leading Marumo by a 1-0 scoreline.
In the second stanza, the hosts began the half highly motivated, aiming to pull one back. But Mokwena’s boys stood their ground.
Sundowns continued to put in a resilient defensive performance to rebuff the efforts of the home side’s attackers.
But the Chloorkop side regained momentum to gain dominance, leading to their second goal of the game through captain Themba Zwane in the 52nd minute.
