Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro wasn’t happy with his side throwing two points away in injury-time against Royal AM.

The Spaniard rung the changes in his team ahead of Saturday’s Soweto Derby in the Nedbank Cup, but Pirates were in control of the match for large parts.

Teenager Relebohile Ratomo, who made his senior debut for the club, looked like he had scored the opener but it was ruled as an own-goal after the deflection from Elias Pelembe.

Pelembe then turned into hero for Royal AM as he snatched a late draw, which means Pirates remained just two points ahead of SuperSport United in the race for second place.

“I’m not happy with the result,” Riveiro told Julia Stuart on SuperSport TV.

“I think it promised much more today to have a much more comfortable result at half-time. I think we were a bit unlucky.

“When the result is that tight, these things can happen in the end of the game. It’s not the first time.

“Unfortunately for us, we dropped points with the last touches of the game. But still, it’s a difficult week for us, I try to take the positive things – we get one more point, it’s a one-more point advantage that we have to protect, defend and capitalise on in the end of the season.”

Pirates moved to 50 points on the log, two ahead of SuperSport with two games left to be played.
